Here is a class exercise as a way to introduce vote sizing to the academic environment. The idea is to get students - from grade-school to the university level - to take a survey querying them on their opinions about the class and its potential direction. The survey itself should take no longer than 12-20 minutes; after which the class should discuss their predictions to how skewed the results might be with different kinds of vote sizing in place, as compared to the traditional 1-student-1-vote. Once the class is over, fill out the spreadsheet with the student's answers, add each of their grades, and adjust some of the many parameters. Once this spreadsheet is complete, upload it to our website to see how different the direction of the class might be with different vote sizing methods in place. Print out the charts and bring them to the next class for a general discussion. The more ambitious teachers can mark some of the questions as binding, and allow the class - through vote sizing of some kind - to determine the curriculum in some way.

Instructions for vote sized learning exercise:

1. Download the Vote Sized Learning - Student Survey - Template.xls.
2. Fill out and modify the green cells to suit your needs.
3. Print out copies of the first 'page' and get students to fill out the white cells.
4. Fill out the blue cells with the results.
5. Upload the finished spreadsheet and fill out the remainder of the form.

Here are some additional questions to ask the students:

1. Should we treat grades like income?
2. Are some grade levels better suited to vote sized learning than others?
3. Could a vote sized learning classroom be good indication of what to expect from vote sized politics, or vote sized companies?
4. With vote sized learning put in place; would ivy league universities' grades rise or fall faster than the public schools?
5. Would it be easier for a vote sized class to sustain a lower grade average than a higher one?
6. In order to work, would it need to be integrated into a larger conventionally competitive program?
7. Should the vote sized student body also control parts of the budget?
